July/August

Swim Across America’s Annual Nantucket Island Swim – July 22, 2023 – A fun and inspiring celebration of those we love fighting cancer and the family, friends, and community who support them. This event had historically been held in August, but moved to July in 2021 in hopes of avoiding jellyfish. Proceeds are divided among PASCON and Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Registration opens in January. All are encouraged to participate. Swim, kayak, volunteer, fundraise, or donate. Kids Splash, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile, and 4 mile (individual and 2-person relay) options. Contact one of the event co-chairs, Jill Roethke or Jim Pignato, if interested in the 2 or 4 mile events.

October

A number of events happen annually during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to benefit PASCON and/or the Marla Ceely Lamb Fund. We’ll add events as we hear about them.

Play in the Pink Games – a week of Nantucket Whaler sports events typically held the second week of the month. Contact our office, the Nantucket Booster Club, or the Nantucket Whaler Athletic Department for details.

November

National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and National Family Caregivers Month are both in November.

Daffodil Planting – Each year thousands of daffodils are planted in different locations across the island to honor our volunteers and caregivers who work tirelessly year-round to care for patients and loved ones. Since 2007 PASCON has planted over 75,000 bulbs along Nantucket’s roads and bike paths. Made possible by Champoux Landscape and J&M Landscape Services. Local landscape companies, students, community groups, and the general public help plant.

Marla Ceely Lamb Fund Annual Fundraiser – Historically held in mid-May or mid-November at Faregrounds Restaurant. Music, silent and live auctions, hors d’oeuvres, and a 50/50 raffle with a $20 suggested donation. The 2020 event was cancelled due to COVID. We’re not yet sure about plans for 2021. Call Meredith at (508) 317-7679 for more information.

Tree of Remembrance Service – Sunday, November 21st, 2021 – Held each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving at 4 pm in the garden of the Jared Coffin House with a reception following at Dune. A special event marking the beginning of the holiday season. Scallop shells are provided to write names of those we wish to remember and are then placed on the tree. This brief but moving interfaith ceremony is a peaceful and special way to memorialize and honor loved ones who have died. All are welcome.

December

Art Show – Typically held at Quidley & Company on Main Street, but now is a hybrid event with bidding on 32auctions.com. Bidding usually opens at noon on Wednesday or Thursday and closes on Saturday, late afternoon or early evening. Hosted by Quidley & Company and sponsored by Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank. Benefits both the Marla Ceely Lamb Fund and Palliative & Supportive Care of Nantucket.
